What is a commercial pilot license (CPL)?

A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is a type of license that legally allows you to fly an aircraft and get paid as a pilot. Having a CPL means you already hold a Private Pilot License (PPL), and you have finished your training towards CPL. A licensed commercial pilot may act as pilot-in-command (Captain) of an aircraft for compensation or hire and carry people or cargo.

Aside from the above-mentioned requirements, the total flying hours required to get a commercial pilot license ranges around 200 flight hours, but it varies from country to country. Best to check with your country’s Civil Aviation Authority.

Take note that a student pilot must pass the CPL ground school classes before proceeding to the actual flight training for CPL.
