Can I be a pilot with private pilot license (PPL)?

Yes, definitely. A Private Pilot License (PPL) is a type of license wherein you can legally fly an aircraft solo or with other people. Private pilots are trained to navigate small aircraft by themselves. While people may seek the license for hobby or sports reasons, a PPL is the first major milestone on the road to becoming an airline pilot. A PPL allows you to fly in and out of all civil airports, a licensed pilot may partake in hobby or leisure activities. A private pilot can take friends and family for rides but not for profit, practice maneuvers, or become involved in many of the wonderful programs that introduce people to flying, but you can not generally earn from it.

The following are the minimum qualifications to obtain a PPL:

  • At least 17 years of age
  • Hold a Student Pilot License (SPL)
  • Obtain a Medical Certificate enabling you fit to fly
  • Receive flight training and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor
  • Meet the aeronautical experience requirements for the aircraft rating sought
  • Pass a practical test for the aircraft rating sought
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
