How Long Will It Take To Finish Flight Training?

The short answer for a complete pilot training program from Private Pilot License to Commercial Pilot License with Multi-Engine Rating and Instrument Rating is a minimum of 12 months up to 28 months. The long answer is that the duration of a pilot training course depends on a number of factors – a few of them are:

  1. The pilot license you are trying to achieve – just training for a Private Pilot License will only take a few months while doing a packaged ‘integrated’ course which includes Private Pilot License, Commercial Pilot License, Instrument Rating, and Multi-Engine Rating should take a minimum of 12 months
  2. If you are doing your flight training part-time or full time. The above duration of a minimum of 12 months assumes full-time training.
  3. The location of your flight school – depending on the weather, aircraft availability, instructor availability, airport restrictions, and other location factors it can affect the duration of your pilot training. For example, Flight Training in certain states in the United States is known for having a short training duration due to great flying weather, flight instructor, and aircraft availability.
