Every country in the world has its own Civil Aviation Authority or simply, Regulator. Each with their own standards and qualifications. That is why if you want to fly abroad, you need to convert your pilot license. The conversion process may be different for each pilot license and country.
For Private Pilot License (PPL), you can usually apply for a direct conversion where you do not need to do additional testing or training. However, for Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), you may need to undergo additional training and tests to have a CPL and/or ATPL.
Here are the steps you need to do to convert your pilot license
1. Research
Research on the conversion requirements for the country you want to transfer to. It may vary based on the pilot license that you possess.
2. Compile the required documents
Make sure that you have all the needed documents. Some of the things you may need are a copy of your medical certificate and pilot license.
3. Submit and verification of the documents
Fill-up the application for and have your foreign pilot license validated by the Civil Aviation Authority. After checking everything, you can now submit your application form and requirements.
4. Continue your training
You need to get a new medical certificate and pass another English Language Proficiency Assessment from the country you want to convert your license to.
5. Receive your new license
You may need to pass additional written and practical exams before getting your new license.
